13-Day Morocco Motorcycle Tour: Ride the 007 Spectre Adventure Through the Sahara

The name 007 Spectre is no accident. Parts of the Bond film were shot in Marrakech and the Sahara — the same places this ride takes you. And since adventure and bikes belong together, the name also fits our rally-ready Yamaha Ténéré 700."Legends are not written in hotels.

On and off the road: The MT 007 Spectre Morocco-Tour

Marrakech serves as both the starting point and the final destination of the MT 007 Spectre adventure. On day one, we take time to absorb the city's beauty and remarkable diversity before heading out into the open landscape. The route winds past imperial cities, across the High and Middle Atlas — where dramatic mountain chains and breathtaking passes reward every rider — and all the way to the Sahara. Paved roads give way to gravel tracks as the journey crosses every climate zone and vegetation belt the country has to offer.

Dyeing factory

The art of dyeing has been woven into Moroccan culture and commerce for centuries. Traditional techniques — many relying on plant-based pigments — are still practiced in certain regions today. From the vivid hues of handwoven rugs to the elaborate robes crafted for festivals and ceremonies, this ancient craft remains a cornerstone of local artisanship.

Sahara

A highlight of the journey is riding along the edge of the Sahara. Participants get the chance to hop on a camel and cross the dunes — a brief, gloriously awkward taste of package tourism that somehow becomes one of the most memorable moments of the trip. We then leave the comfort zone entirely and spend a desert night under the Sahara's staggering sky, gathered around a campfire beneath what feels like a thousand stars.

The Spectre Bike Tour shares its name with the 007 Bond film — and while the two are not to be confused, this experience is every bit as worth seeing, just lived from the saddle of a Yamaha MT007. The route is designed to deliver something genuinely extraordinary: away from the well-worn tourist trail, through lesser-known corners of the country, on a mix of paved roads and light off-road sections that keep every riding day fresh and varied.

Erg Chebbi

The African morning sun rises over a waking bazaar. The muezzin calls to prayer. The smell of spices and fresh flatbread drifts through the open window. You wake up in the middle of it all — in one of Morocco's four royal cities.

After a biker's breakfast, you ride through Morocco's wild and shifting scenery: over the High Atlas and down to the dunes of Erg Chebbi. This is one of the boldest rides we run in Morocco. It crosses the 4,176-meter Atlas range and ends at the 150-meter dunes of Erg Chebbi — dunes the nomads once believed could heal.

The Berbers thought a sand bath in the hot dunes could ease rheumatism and skin problems. We think so too — so we take our enduros for a "bath" in Erg Chebbi.

  • Spring and autumn are ideal: pleasant temperatures, clear visibility, and perfect conditions for motorcycle travel through Morocco.
  • Overcross has been regularly (often multiple times a year) conducting motorcycle trips in Morocco for many years. With this experience, we know that if you adhere to the usual basic rules for tourists, you will travel in a safe country. On our tours, you can feel comfortable and very well cared for in the cities, on the roads, and of course off-road at any time.
  • Yes! Your German driving license is valid in Morocco.
  • During motorcycle trips in Morocco, we experience a very variable climate. While we experience fresh, partly cool temperatures in the Atlas Mountains (especially in the mornings & evenings), it can get significantly warmer during the day in the Sahara. In spring and autumn, temperatures usually range between 20°C and 30°C.
  • Yes! There is a helmet requirement for motorcyclists, just like on our guided motorcycle tours in Morocco.
  • MT referred to the Yamaha Tenere and 007 to the model and Spectre to the James Bond title.
  • We do that too. We transport to Malaga and Marrakech.
  • Citizens of the European Union do not need a visa, just a passport. This must still be valid for at least 8 months. Entry with an identity card is NOT possible.
  • Motorcycle trips in Morocco generally follow the same traffic rules as in other European countries. It is highly recommended to adopt a defensive driving style, as cars or motor vehicles like to fight for the right of way. It is important to always leave enough distance to the vehicle in front, as turn signals are often only used sparingly. In particular, taxis often just stop.
  • No, you don’t need to bring tools; the support vehicle has everything you need on board.
  • Regarding equipment transport: you can easily take some of your stuff in the support vehicle, no problem. Just don’t bring too much, as we don’t have unlimited space in the car.
  • Normally we have enough tie-down straps for our rental bikes, but if you have some, it doesn’t hurt to bring them, also because they can be used for other situations. And no, you don’t need to bring tools; the support vehicle has everything you need on board.
  • Of course, you can bring a drone, as long as you share some of those cool videos with us ;) (just remember that you need to coordinate with your tour guide when and where flying is allowed for safety reasons). For example, unidentifiable flying objects are usually not allowed in military zones.
  • Regarding the rain suit: desert areas mostly remain dry, while some coastal regions can receive more rain, but mostly only briefly. Whether you bring equipment for this is entirely up to you.
