OVERVIEW
Africa Group Tour - Ngorongoro, Serengeti & Zanzibar Safari
From the wild Serengeti to the spice-scented shores of Zanzibar, this tour combines two of East Africa's icons for an unforgettable journey full of wildlife encounters and island culture.
Safari Adventure: From Nairobi to the Serengeti and Zanzibar
This extravagance of magnificent safari experiences in Tanzania along the azure waters of Zanzibar and the intertwined history begins in Nairobi, Kenya.
We cross the border into the Tanzanian savannah, known worldwide for its density and diversity of wildlife. Deep in the heart of the African continent, you are surrounded by the precious beauty of the Serengeti. Lions stealthily move through the tall grass, elephants roam across golden plains, and the sunrise casts a warm glow over a landscape teeming with fauna.
A full safari day brings outstanding encounters with Africa's most iconic animals. If you want more, there is a popular, pre-bookable optional balloon safari that lifts you over the grasslands and into the more inaccessible areas of the thicket.
From Seronera, the journey continues to the Ngorongoro Crater, a breathtaking natural amphitheater full of wildlife. You descend into the caldera at dawn, past shimmering lakes, acacia forests, and expansive grasslands in search of lions, rhinos, flamingos, and more.
The abundance and closeness of the animals in this fascinating, enclosed ecosystem ensures a truly surreal safari.
The road continues towards Karatu, with a stop at the market of Mto wa Mbu, which offers a colorful glimpse into local life. Bright fruits, handmade crafts, and the region’s famous red bananas fill the stalls and provide insight into the vibrant culture of Tanzania, from which even more is to be expected.
As the savannah recedes, we venture to the Tanzanian coast and into the town of Bagamoyo, once a center of the East African slave trade, now a place of reflection and tranquility.
From here, a ferry takes you across the sky-blue waters to the island of Zanzibar.
In Zanzibar, time slows down. Relax on the beach or explore the adventurous side of the island with a variety of optional water activities.
You stroll on a guided tour through the spice-scented alleys of Stone Town, enjoying the mix of Swahili, Arab, and colonial heritage with many historical landmarks and the birthplace of Freddie Mercury.
Alongside the historical route, we also visit the famous spice plantations that enrich the island's flavorful cuisine.
It is the perfect way to end a journey that combines breathtaking African wildlife and island softness with cultural infusion, capturing the essence of Tanzania.
Daily program: Africa group trip: Ngorongoro Crater & Zanzibar Trek - camping or lodge safari
Day 1 – Nairobi - Arusha
After leaving the hustle and bustle of Nairobi behind us, we travel south to the Tanzanian border. After completing the border formalities, we continue our journey to the bustling city of Arusha, our base for the night. Northern Tanzania is home to the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro, and Kilimanjaro.
Day 2 - Serengeti National Park (Seronera)
We are gathered this morning in safari-style vehicles and depart early from Arusha, heading straight towards Serengeti National Park. In the afternoon, we will reach our camp in the Seronera region, which is located in the heart of the Serengeti. The camp is surrounded by spectacular views and abundant wildlife, and this evening, while enjoying a cold drink, we will enjoy the sights and sounds of nature passing right in front of our Meru tent.
Day 3 - Serengeti National Park (Seronera)
This morning we get up early to drive through the Serengeti National Park for a whole day. Famous for the rich wildlife that exists in the park, we will spend most of our day looking for the animals that live here.
Day 4 - Crater of Ngorongoro - Karatu
We spend the morning driving to the Ngorongoro Crater, where we enter the conservation area and explore the crater floor to search for the animals that roam the plains. After our exploration, we leave the crater and make the short journey to Karatu, where we will be spending the night.
Day 5 - Moshi
Shortly after our departure from Karatu, we will visit the Mto wa Mbu market, located in the small village of Mto wa Mbu. Known for crops such as rice and its distinctive red bananas, the town lies on the main road connecting the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area with Arusha. Today's journey offers changing landscapes – from the fertile highlands and coffee plantations around Karatu, through open savannas and small rural villages, to the lush foothills surrounding Moshi. Enjoy the rest of the evening in tranquility, overlooking Kilimanjaro (weather permitting) and preparing for the next leg of your journey.
Day 6 – Bagamoyo
We set off early this morning as we travel south to our overnight stop. Traveling by road in Africa is an experience in itself, and the bustling markets, villages, and picturesque backgrounds that line the routes provide a glimpse into the lifestyle of rural Africa.
Day 7 – Beaches of Zanzibar
We leave Bagamoyo and make our way to Dar es Salaam and the ferry port to take the ferry to Zanzibar. Upon arrival in Zanzibar, we head to the eastern shores of the island, where we will spend the next two nights in a beach resort. Relax on the beach, enjoy the infinity pool, or rent a bicycle and explore the surroundings.
Day 8 – Beaches of Zanzibar
Today is a free day to enjoy some of the attractions and activities on offer. Whatever you choose today, you will have plenty of opportunities to create some island memories. Explore the many attractions available or simply relax on the beach and enjoy the sun.
Day 9 – Stone Town (Zanzibar)
This morning we drive by car to Stone Town. Before we arrive in Stone Town, we will stop along the way to enjoy a guided spice tour that leads through villages and spice plantations. You will be able to experience first-hand how the workers climb the trees on the spice farms and search for specific plants, and have the opportunity to buy fresh spices directly from these farms. We continue our journey to Stone Town, which has a rich history; this bustling port city was once a landmark on both the slave and spice trade routes. We will enjoy a city tour through Stone Town to discover the more well-known sights, including the birthplace of Freddy Mercury.
Day 10 – Stone City
This morning we enjoy our final breakfast together and say goodbye to our fellow travelers. Your tour will end after breakfast in Stone Town.
